Hydrography is Latin for the description of water. This field is also defined as “Geodesy at sea”. During the survey engineer jobs building maintenance and construction of offshore sites, reliable information is required about the water column, water depth, seabed topography, and the nature of the soil. To obtain this information, specialized measurements are required. Onshore work requires the assistance of a land surveyor but with measurements on and under the water, this role is performed by the hydrographic surveyor. It is his task to ensure that there is sufficient reliable information available to position, calculate, and to process the acquired data.
